Construction site of the underground cable line for the 110kV Quy Nhơn Port Substation project.
04/02/2026The 110kV overhead transmission line segment of the project has been completed.
The 110kV Quy Nhơn Port Substation and Connection Line Project is being constructed in the Quy Nhơn Port area, Hải Cảng Ward, Quy Nhơn City, Bình Định Province. The project includes key components such as a newly built 110kV substation with a designed capacity of 2x63MVA. In the current phase, one 110/22kV – 63MVA transformer has been installed, with space reserved for a second transformer. The substation is a digital unmanned type, and the connection line consists of a 5.825 km double-circuit 110kV line, including:
-
1.8 km of overhead lines, and
-
4.025 km of underground cables, using single-phase 110kV copper-core XLPE-insulated cables with a cross-section of 1,200mm².
What sets this project apart is the use of underground cable technology in urban areas, including a river crossing segment. The construction solution involves installing cables in HDPE conduits and direct burial at a depth of approximately 1.5 to 2 meters. In some areas, 0.5-meter-deep cable trenches are used, along with robotic drilling methods, all adhering to the highest technical and safety standards.
At present, the Central Rural Power Project Management Board (CPCCREB) is mobilizing all available resources and working closely with contractors to accelerate progress, aiming to complete the project within the assigned schedule.

The underground cable route is being urgently constructed by PCC5 with round-the-clock (24/24) operations to meet the project schedule. These are the final drilling points along the entire route.
The drilling commander for underground cable installation and supervising engineers from CPCCREB are closely monitoring the construction site at all times.
With only about 700 meters of drilling remaining, the underground cable route is nearing full completion. This construction method is a minimally invasive solution that significantly reduces impact on urban landscapes, infrastructure, the environment of Quy Nhơn City, and the daily lives of local residents where the project is being implemented.

Quy Nhơn Port as seen from Thị Nại Bridge — this is one of the major seaports of Bình Định Province. Once the 110kV Quy Nhơn Port Substation Project is completed, it will comprehensively enhance the reliability of power supply for the port and surrounding support areas, thereby contributing to the growth of import-export activities and promoting the socio-economic development of the region.
