The successful energization of the project has significantly contributed to ensuring the safe, continuous, and stable supply of electricity to Côn Đảo Special Zone. It meets the growing demands of socio-economic development, national defense and security, and improves the quality of life for local residents. At the same time, it replaces local diesel power generation, reduces electricity production costs, minimizes greenhouse gas emissions, and supports Vietnam’s commitments to emission reduction and sustainable development.

This milestone also affirms the capability to execute large-scale energy projects with modern technology under complex and harsh offshore construction conditions.

The project to supply electricity from the national grid to Côn Đảo Special Zone marks a pivotal step in realizing the national energy infrastructure development strategy. It demonstrates the strong commitment of the Government, the electricity sector, and all participating units in caring for and developing infrastructure in Vietnam’s maritime and border regions.

Construction of the Submarine Cable Installation Supplying Power from the National Grid to Côn Đảo Special Zone

   • Voltage level: 110 kV

   • Total length: 103.7 km, including:

     • Overhead line: 17.5 km across Vĩnh Châu Town, Sóc Trăng Province

     • Submarine cable: 77.7 km from VT32 (last offshore tower) to Côn Đảo

     • Underground cable on the island: 8.5 km from the landing point to the 110 kV substation at An Hội Power Plant, Côn Đảo

     • Substations: Expansion of a 110 kV feeder bay at the 220 kV Vĩnh Châu Substation (Sóc Trăng), and construction of a 110/22 kV GIS Substation in Côn Đảo

3. Total Investment: 4,923 billion VND

4. Construction Start: December 2024

5. Completion of Full Cable Installation: August 12, 2025

6. Completion of 220 kV Vĩnh Châu Substation Expansion (Can Tho City): August 5, 2025
