On February 5, 2024, Power Engineering Consulting and Construction Joint Stock Company No. 5 (PCC5) signed a construction contract for the package “Construction of the Transmission Line Section from Tower VT179 to VT190 (including VT190)” with the Northern Power Projects Management Board – a Branch of the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT).

The 500kV Circuit-3 Transmission Line from Quang Trach to Pho Noi comprises four component projects, including:

The entire line spans approximately 519 km, consisting of 1,179 tower foundations, with a total investment of around VND 22,000 billion.
It passes through 211 communes/wards, 43 districts/towns, and 9 provinces, namely: Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Hai Duong, and Hung Yen.
Project Significance:
This is a strategically critical project aimed at enhancing the transmission capacity of the 500kV North – Central grid, ensuring greater operational stability of the national power system. It plays a key role in ensuring reliable electricity supply to the northern region, both currently and in the coming years.
In addition, the project helps alleviate overload risks on the existing 500kV lines, ensuring N-1 compliance, especially when power flow from the North is low due to decreased hydropower output.
